Following the auditions and interviews, you may be asked to meet with individual companies.
KCACTF Region VII offers Festival participants a wonderful opportunity to take the next step in their educational or professional growth with this chance to be seen and heard by professional theatre companies, casting directors, BA and BFA schools, as well as graduate and summer training programs. Jobs, internships, summer work, 4 year schools and graduate programs will be represented at the auditions and interviews. Performers: you need to have digital copies of your headshot and resume to upload during registration if you are a performer. You will want to bring 5-10 hard copies for your callbacks. Auditions for performers will be held Wednesday at Festival, with callbacks happening that night, possibly Thursday morning.
Design/Tech/Management (DTM): Design students should prepare a portfolio of your work to bring to conference for interviews and tech students should bring a resume. Please be prepared to present your portfolio/resume to a group of interested parties, or introduce yourself and your experience if you are interested in more technical opportunities. We will supply a projector, but you will need a laptop and plug in if you want to project your work. You may also choose to simply pass your physical portfolio around the room. Interviewers will be given a copy of your application, resume and headshot. We do ask that you upload a headshot, so that our interviewers can remember you (doesn’t need to be fancy, just a good likening to yourself).You will be scheduled a time to audition or interview before conference, and that information will be posted at the registration desk when you arrive at the festival. DTM interviews will be held on Tuesday morning, with callbacks in the afternoon as deemed necessary. We realize this might conflict with some DTM happenings at festival, but DTM Chair Daniel Schindler has assured us that he is willing to work around scheduling when possible.

How do I register for Next Step?

- 2. Next Step will have 2 options for you (performers and Design/Tech/Management). Select to the option that best suits you. (if you are doing both, you will have to repeat the process, and yes, pay twice)
There is a $10.00 fee to for ALL applicants to participate in the Next Step Auditions and Interviews to cover Picture/Resume distribution, facility access and related costs. You will be notified via email of your audition/interview times and locations. There will also be a posting at registration when you arrive and check in at festival.
What do I prepare for Next Step?
- Performers: please prepare 2 minutes of material; sing, do 1 or 2 monologues, any combination of appropriate choices totaling 2 minutes. Live accompaniment provided.
- Designers: please prepare a well-organized portfolio that will show your best work and be prepared for a 5 minute interview.
- Technicians/Managers: be prepared to discuss your resume and answer questions for 5 minutes.
A list will be provided as soon as we confirm the companies that will be in attendance.
